Lock up your salad and grab a life vest—the world’s most aggressive produce is officially going naval!

It’s been 47 years since the original red menace first terrorized theaters in 1978, but the franchise is back with a vengeance in Attack of the Killer Tomatoes: Organic Intelligence. This time, the splatstick is getting a high-tech upgrade, and the production is docking at a very cool real-world location: the USS Midway Museum.

The Teaser: Nature vs. The Machine

The first teaser just dropped, and it’s pitting the “eternal power of nature” (a.k.a. angry fruit) against the “best and brightest of AI.” It looks like a glorious mix of cult-classic mayhem and fresh “organic” chaos.

A Harvest of Stars

The cast list for this fifth installment is quite impressive. We’ve got a mix of comedy legends, horror icons, and fresh faces, including John Astin, David Koechner, and Dan Bakkedahl. There’s also horror royalty, Catherine Corcoran (Terrifier) and Daniel Roebuck. What would a cheesy horror movie be without Oscar nominee Eric Roberts? Myrna Velasco, Noor Razooky, and Zachary Roozen round out the cast.

A Quick History Lesson

For those who weren’t around for the 1978 original, it was a $100,000 indie miracle that spawned three sequels (Return of the Killer Tomatoes, Killer Tomatoes Strike Back, and Killer Tomatoes Eat France) plus a beloved 90s animated series on Fox.

This new chapter is being brought to life by W. Finletter Films and Killer Tomatoes Entertainment, with Anchor Bay Entertainment handling the theatrical release. And you can watch the teaser trailer below.

To celebrate, there’s even a special pre-screening and fundraiser event happening in collaboration with the USS Midway Museum. If you’ve ever wanted to watch tomatoes attack a ship while actually on a legendary aircraft carrier, this is your moment. You can find out more on the official website.

Whether you’re here for the nostalgia or want to see AI get beat up by a beefsteak tomato, this looks like a “fruitful” addition to the series. If you’re now in the mood to watch the original, you can find it on Prime Video and on Tubi.
