If you’re the type of person who stays up late wondering if the person sitting next to you is a secret serial killer, Epic Pictures Group is about to ruin your sleep schedule. They just dropped a tense new exclusive clip from their upcoming thriller The Huntsman, titled “Start Talking,” and it’s a masterclass in tension.
The clip features Jessy Schram (Mad Men) as a detective who has clearly had a very long week. She’s on the edge, taking zero chances, and basically radiating “don’t test me” energy. If this sneak peek is any indication, we’re in for a psychological ride that’s more about the “clues you might miss” than just loud jump scares.
A Coma, a Killer, and a Caregiver
Based on the award-winning novel by Judith Sanders, the film asks a genuinely skin-crawling question: What happens when your best intentions put you in a serial killer’s crosshairs?
The story follows Max (played by Shawn Ashmore), an ICU nurse who decides to do something kind—volunteering to read to a patient in a coma. The catch? That patient is Lincoln (Garret Dillahunt), a man suspected of brutally murdering six women. As Max gets closer to his comatose charge, he finds himself trapped in a web of obsession and lethal secrets. While Lincoln is stuck in bed, the danger is very much alive, and the mystery deepens as Max begins to wonder whether he’s caring for a monster or a victim.
Why This Isn’t Your Standard Slasher
Director Kyle Kauwika Harris (who co-wrote the script with Steven Jon Whritner) is aiming for something more elevated than your average Friday night horror flick. He’s leaning into the “gray areas of morality” and the psychological weight of the characters.
“The true horror often lies not in what we see, but in what we don’t,” Harris explains.
He’s designed the film to be a “psychological rollercoaster,” forcing the audience to question everyone’s motives—including their own. It’s less about blood and more about the “fragility of the mind.”
The Dream Team Behind the Dread
The cast is a literal “Who’s Who” of genre favorites. That includes Shawn Ashmore (X-Men), Elizabeth Mitchell (Lost), Jessy Schram (Chicago Fire), and Garret Dillahunt (Fear the Walking Dead).
