Justine Triet is back, and she’s trading the snowy French Alps for her very first full English-language feature. After the Oscar-winning success of Anatomy of a Fall, she has set her sights on a new psychological thriller, Fonda. Deadline reports that this project is already the “it” girl of the upcoming European Film Market in Berlin.

A Deep Dive into the Mind

Don’t worry, this isn’t a Jane Fonda biopic. The title actually refers to an institution central to the story. Fonda is set in a “seemingly idyllic huis clos” (that’s fancy French for a “closed-door” or confined space). It’s being teased as a “vertiginous dive” into the shifting limits of a sound mind, where grief and obsession take over.

The Dream Cast

The lineup for Fonda is basically a checklist of everyone’s favorite “prestige” actors. That includes Mia Goth, star of the “X” franchise, and Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein. Andrew Scott (All of Us Strangers) and Oscar-winning Allison Janney join her. Frank Dillane and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett round out the ensemble.

The A-Team Reunites

Triet is reuniting with the producers and the sales team (mk2 Films) that helped turn Anatomy of a Fall into a global hit. Studiocanal has also jumped on board to co-produce and handle distribution in major spots like France, Germany, Australia, and New Zealand. Filming is set to kick off this Spring. We’ll keep you posted.
