Sophie Wilde is officially the new “it girl” of the genre world, and her next project sounds like a terrifying trip. After the success of A24’s Talk to Me, Wilde has signed on to star in Soon You Will Be Gone and Possibly Eaten. It’s a sci-fi horror thriller with the most ominous title of the year.

Wedding Crashers from Outer Space

Imagine planning your dream wedding at a secluded mountain resort, only to have the ceremony interrupted by “unexpected guests.” And I don’t mean you, ex. We’re talking aliens.

Director Egor Abramenko says the script is a “fresh take on the alien genre,” which—given the title—suggests these extraterrestrials aren’t here for the cake.

The Dream Team

This project is from Egor Abramenko, the visionary behind the gritty Russian sci-fi hit Sputnik, in the director’s chair. The scriptwriters are Luke Piotrowski and Ben Collins. They’re the duo who made our skin crawl with The Night House and the Hulu Hellraiser reboot.

The film’s story is based on a short story by Nick Antosca. Antosca is the brilliant mind behind Antlers, Channel Zero, and the upcoming Cape Fear series. The team behind M3GAN and The Black Phone 2 (Divide/Conquer) is joining forces with Anton and Anonymous Content.

Monkey Rave created the aliens, and the production design is by Masha Slavina (Altar). And the film is currently being shopped at the European Film Market (EFM).

Sophie Wilde’s Winning Streak

If you haven’t been keeping up, Sophie Wilde is having a massive moment. After her AACTA-winning performance in Talk to Me, she’s been stacking her resume with elite projects, including Babygirl, starring opposite Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson. Wilde is also set to star in Alejandro Inárritu’s next big film, Digger.

Upcoming from Anton Studio

Anton is quickly becoming the studio to watch for smart, “prestige” genre films. Aside from this Sophie Wilde thriller, keep an eye out for Victorian Psycho, My Darling California, and In Love, which is a romantic drama starring George Clooney and Annette Bening.

Cameras begin rolling this Spring, so keep an eye out for updates on Soon You Will Be Gone and Possibly Eaten.
