Lionsgate has officially snagged A Head Full of Ghosts, a psychological horror flick that’s been on every genre fan’s radar since the book dropped. They’ve secured the worldwide rights just in time for the European Film Market, according to Deadline, and the cast they’re assembling is essentially a horror fan’s dream.

After five seasons of “Stranger Things,” David Harbour, set to star in the film, should be an expert with all things intense and scary. He is also set to reprise his role as a bad ass Santa in Violent Night 2.

Rebecca Hall (The Night House) and Esmé Creed-Miles (The Sandman) are also in final talks to star.

Reality TV Meets Possession

Based on Paul Tremblay’s killer 2015 novel, the story is a nasty little cocktail of family drama and supernatural dread:

The Barretts are a typical suburban family whose lives implode when their teenage daughter starts losing her mind. Naturally, because it’s the 21st century, her “descent into madness” becomes the subject of a hit reality TV show. Fast forward fifteen years, and her younger sister, Merry, is finally ready to tell a journalist what actually happened behind the scenes. Spoiler: It’s worse than the cameras showed.

Why You Should Be Excited

Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala are helming a Head Full of Ghosts. These are the same masterminds behind Goodnight Mommy and The Lodge. If you like movies that make you feel like you need a shower and a hug afterward, you’ll love this.

Now, get this,  Robert Downey Jr. and Susan Downey are producing under their Team Downey banner. Even Stephen King has weighed in, calling the novel his favorite of the last decade and admitting it “scared the living hell” out of him. When the master of horror says he’s spooked, you listen.

We’ll keep you posted as more news surfaces. In the meantime, you should check out the book, which you can find on Amazon.
