Johnny is back, and he’s still not a happy camper. In a Violent Nature became a viral horror sensation back in 2024; now the team is officially doubling down on the gore. Paris-based sales powerhouse Charades has boarded In a Violent Nature 2. And are taking it to the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin. The first image has been unveiled to whet your appetite.
If the first movie was a slow-burning walk through the woods, the sequel is reportedly a sprint into chaos.
Summer Camp Just Got Deadlier
Production wrapped in Canada late last year, and the film is now deep in post-production. Ry Barrett returns as Johnny, the undead, vengeful force of nature who originally woke up because someone touched his favorite locket.
This time, Johnny is trading the deep wilderness for a classic horror trope: a summer camp. The story follows a young, outcast camper who finds himself trapped at an end-of-season party with his sister (a counselor) and her friends. As you can guess, Johnny isn’t there for the s’mores.
“Exponential Ultraviolence”
The creative team isn’t holding back. While the first film was famous for its artistic, “third-person-perspective” cinematography, the sequel is cranking up the volume. Director Nathaniel Wilson takes the helm with a script by the original film’s mastermind, Chris Nash.
Producer Peter Kuplowsky (the guy behind Psycho Goreman) promised fans an “exponential increase of the ol’ ultraviolence.” Charades’ co-founders have teased that this installment is “driven by a new vision.” They are teasing kills and more blood, and aim to be even more iconic than the first.
The Cast & Crew
Joining Ry Barrett in the carnage is a fresh ensemble cast: Lucas Nguyen, Olivia Scriven, Laurie Babin, Fionn Laird, Donald MacLean Jr., and Evan Marsh
The film is produced by Peter Kuplowsky and Shannon Hanmer, with IFC Films (Independent Film Company) and Shudder set to bring the nightmare to screens.
Why the Hype is Real
The original In a Violent Nature broke the slasher mold by letting us walk in the killer’s boots, focusing on the sensory experience of the hunt. It turned a “long walk in the woods” into something deeply unsettling. If the sequel can maintain that unique vibe while delivering on the promised “hook,” we might be looking at the next great horror franchise.
You can stream the original film on Shudder. Here’s a look back at the trailer.
