If you’ve ever felt like the gym was actually trying to kill you, your worst fears are about to become a cinematic reality. Platinum Dunes—the horror powerhouse behind A Quiet Place and The Purge—has officially announced their next high-concept nightmare: Shredded. To celebrate the announcement, we have the first look at the teaser poster.
Survival of the Fittest
After a rough breakup, Eileen decides to reinvent herself by joining an elite, ultra-intense fitness program led by a charismatic—but secretly unhinged—coach. When the “motivation” becomes toxic and Eileen attempts to quit, she discovers the program lacks an opt-out clause.
Abducted and trapped in a sadistic, high-tech training compound, Eileen and the other captives are forced to endure lethal workouts. It’s a situation where “no pain, no gain” is taken to a bloody extreme. Eileen has to realize that out-lifting her captor isn’t the answer—she’ll have to outsmart his obsession with perfection. But can she break free?
The Creative Muscle
Academy Award® nominee Josh Lawson is both writing and directing. Known for his roles in Mortal Kombat and St. Denis Medical, Lawson is a seasoned creator. His dark comedies demonstrate his ability to balance humor with uncomfortable tension.
Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Alex Ginno of Platinum Dunes are producing alongside Jeff Golenberg of Strand Entertainment. Platinum Dunes describes the film as a “deeply personal story.” It turns gym equipment and mirrors into objects of pure terror. It targets the dark underbelly of modern fitness culture. This is one workout you won’t be able to walk away from.
Why It’s Generating Buzz
Shredded is being positioned as a “viscerally entertaining crowd-pleaser” that taps into very real contemporary anxieties. In an era of self-obsession, influencers, and the relentless pressure of self-improvement, the film asks: How far are we willing to push our bodies before they—and our minds—completely snap?
“Shredded is as brutal and unapologetically intense as the ultimate workout from hell,” says Protagonist CEO Dave Bishop. “It’s set to put worldwide theatrical audiences through their paces.”
The project is heading to the European Film Market with major momentum, backed by Logical Pictures Group and Protagonist Pictures.
