If you thought your childhood dolls were creepy, wait until you meet DOLLY. Vertigo Releasing, IFC, and Shudder have officially teamed up to bring the brutal, visceral, and slightly-too-intense slasher Dolly to UK cinemas starting March 6. If you like your horror with a side of “I’m never sleeping again,” this one is for you.
Not Your Typical Tea Party
The movie follows Macy, a young woman abducted by a monstrous figure. But this isn’t a “ransom note” situation; her captor is a massive, terrifying individual who is weirdly intent on “raising” her like a baby.
Based on the short film Babygirl, director Rod Blackhurst has expanded his creepy vision into a full-blown feature that serves as a bloody love letter to classic 70s slashers. It’s gritty, it’s brooding, and it’s definitely not rated PG.
The Cast: Stifler Meets Earl?
The lineup for this movie is a fascinating, high-profile cast: Seann William Scott (yes, Stifler from American Pie). Ethan Suplee (My Name Is Earl) also stars. Pro-wrestler Max The Impaler makes his debut as “Dolly.” If you’ve seen Max in the ring, you know they are the literal definition of “physically imposing.” Fabianne Therese (John Dies At The End), Russ Tiller, and Eve Blackhurst round out the cast.
Why You Should Be Scared
This isn’t just another jump-scare fest. It’s a “visceral” experience that takes the “creepy kid” trope and flips it on its head by making the “kid” a hulking nightmare.
Mark your calendars for March 6, grab your popcorn, and maybe leave your vintage porcelain dolls in the attic for this one.
