Move over, Winnie the Pooh—there’s a new public domain icon in town, and she’s swapped the “Boop-Oop-a-Doop” for some “Slice-and-Dice.” Betty’s Revenge, the indie slasher that turns everyone’s favorite flapper Betty Boop into a total nightmare, is officially out!
Cabaret from Hell
Betty Boop’s first appearance inspired the movie in the 1930 short Dizzy Dishes, which entered the public domain this year. The movie follows three college seniors as they decide to research the Dizzy Dishes cabaret club. Once inside, they meet the former owner, Betty (Hannah Fierman, who you’ll recognize from V/H/S). Betty claims she’s half-woman and half… “something else.” When the students find her secret journal, Betty decides the only way to end their research is by making them part of a permanent “bedtime story” of trauma and you’ll.
The Team Behind the Toon
Hannah Fierman stars in Betty’s Revenge. Tiffany McDonald and Michelle Sherrill join her. Faith McKinstry and Samuel J. Bennett round out the cast. Brett Bentman wrote and directed this wild ride, taking full advantage of the fact that Betty’s vintage look is now free for all the creative (and creepy) use he wants.
