After absolutely slaying the box office this past holiday season, the reboot of the ultimate “naughty list” slasher, Silent Night, Deadly Night (2025), is officially coming home.

I just finished a rewatch, and let’s be real: this isn’t just a remake. It’s a level-up. Forget the low-budget vibes of the old sequels. This version takes the 1984 classic and gives it a supernatural, Dexter-meets-Violent Night facelift that actually has a soul.

Warning Spoilers

The Plot: A 24-Day Countdown to Carnage

Rohan Campbell (Halloween Ends) stars as Billy, and he is perfect as the tortured drifter in the red suit. Billy carries a grisly Advent Calendar. Every day in December leading up to Christmas, he has to track down someone “naughty.” Once the deed is done, he uses the victim’s blood to blot out the corresponding day on the calendar.

There’s a twist. Billy is guided by a telepathic voice in his head named “Charlie” (the man who murdered his parents). Charlie acts as a supernatural mentor, flashing visions of people’s crimes into Billy’s mind to reveal who truly deserves the axe.

Why It Works (And Where It Gets Wild)

The movie takes a massive, “Hallmark-gone-wrong” swing in the middle when Billy falls for Pam (played by Happy Death Day’s Ruby Modine). For a good thirty minutes, you’re basically watching a cozy small-town romance… right up until Billy has to go axe-murder a secret “White Power Christmas” party full of neo-Nazis (watch the clip here). It is, without a doubt, the most cheer-worthy slasher sequence of the franchise.

The Verdict & That Ending

Is it as mean-spirited as the 1984 original? No. It replaces the old-school sleaze with actual lore and a vigilante vibe that makes you actually root for the killer.

Warning: Spoilers: The movie drops a bombshell in the final act. Billy reveals that Charlie’s voice is actually a “curse” that was transferred into him via an electrical surge when he touched his parents’ killer as a child. In a heartbreaking finale, a dying Billy passes the “Dark Passenger” to Pam with a single touch. The last thing we see? Pam hears Billy’s voice in her head and gives the camera a wicked grin. The baton has been passed, and I am 100% here for a Silent Night, Deadly Night 2 starring Ruby Modine.

How to Watch

Get your copy on digital or VOD now, or on Blu-ray or 4K, which we recommend. It’s got to be a new addition to your annual holiday horror watch list. If you haven’t seen the original Silent Night, Deadly Night, you can find it streaming on AMC+, Plex, Prime Video, Pluto TV, and Shudder.
