Get ready to fall in love with the carnage all over again. Dread Central is reporting that Mason Gooding is in talks to reprise his role in the highly anticipated sequel, Heart Eyes 2.

After barely making it out of the first film alive, it looks like Jay is ready to face another round of terror. Here is what we know about the return of the rom-com slasher.

The Return of the Survivor

Mason Gooding has quickly become a modern horror icon. His survival in the original Heart Eyes made him a fan favorite. While the first film put its leads through a romantic-themed meat grinder, the news of Gooding’s return suggests that the sequel will pick up the pieces of his character’s fractured life.

Details on the plot are still being kept in a vault, but the creative DNA remains intact. Josh Ruben, the director behind the first film’s unique blend of humor and gore, is reportedly returning to helm the sequel. Ruben is known for his sharp, satirical eye (Scare Me, Werewolves Within), so expect Heart Eyes 2 to subvert expectations just as much as the original.

A Big Week for Mason Gooding

If you can’t wait for the sequel to get your Mason Gooding fix, you’re in luck. The actor is dominating the genre. In fact, you can catch him on the big screen in Scream 7, which officially hits theaters this Friday.

Gooding’s “Core Four” character has become a staple of the Scream franchise, and his busy schedule proves he’s one of the most sought-after final boys in the business.

Why Heart Eyes Struck a Chord

Heart Eyes stood out in a crowded horror market by leaning into the “slasher-comedy” subgenre with a heavy focus on relationship tropes. The killer targets couples or those looking for love.

The rest of the cast has not been announced. However, we will likely see the return of Gooding’s co-star from the first film, Olivia Holt. After all, they made a killer couple.

Here’s a look back at the original movie’s trailer. If you missed Heart Eyes or want to rewatch it, you can stream it now on Paramount+.
