The new trailer for Newborn is here. It is an edge-of-your-seat psychological thriller that promises to linger in your mind long after you leave the theater.

Here is everything you need to know about this highly anticipated release.

A Different Kind of Prison

The film stars David Oyelowo as Chris Newborn. He is a man who has just finished serving seven grueling years in solitary confinement, leaving him broken. While he’s technically “free,” he quickly discovers that the real world has become a psychological minefield.

As Chris tries to rebuild his life, the trauma of his past begins to blur the lines between reality and a terrifying new battleground. It’s a deep dive into the mental toll of isolation and the fragile journey of coming home.

Cast & Creative Team

The film boasts a powerhouse ensemble and a seasoned crew. Writer-director Nate Parker (The Birth of a Nation) leads the way. David Oyelowo (Selma, Lawmen: Bass Reeves) stars alongside the supporting cast, Olivia Washington (I’m a Virgo), Barry Pepper (Saving Private Ryan), and Jimmie Fails (The Last Black Man in San Francisco). Nate Parker, David Oyelowo, Aaron L. Gilbert, and Christina Lee Storm produce.

A Historic Partnership with AMC

This release is a joint effort between AMC and Mansa Studios—the production and distribution label founded by Nate Parker and David Oyelowo. The goal? To bypass the usual algorithms and bring powerful, independent stories directly to a massive national audience with total transparency and scale.

Why the Buzz?

Newborn (originally titled Solitary) has been a long time coming. It actually wrapped production back in 2020. Now, with a fresh title and a major theatrical push, it’s being hailed as one of the most provocative and emotionally charged films of the spring season. See it when it opens on April 10, exclusively in AMC theaters.
