Get ready to hide under the covers—everyone’s favorite pink protector is officially back! The cult classic “Courage the Cowardly Dog” is coming to Tubi! And we are 1000% here for it!

The internet is already buzzing with nostalgia, and for good reason. Whether you’re a 90s kid looking to revisit your childhood trauma or a newcomer ready for some weirdness, this is the perfect time to head back to the middle of “Nowhere.”

A Look Back: The History of Nowhere

Created by John R. Dilworth, Courage first appeared in a 1996 Oscar-nominated short titled The Chicken from Outer Space. It was so weird and wonderful that Cartoon Network gave it a full series, which ran from 1999 to 2002.

The premise was simple but effective: an incredibly anxious pink dog named Courage lives in a farmhouse in the middle of “Nowhere” with his kind owner, Muriel, and her grumpy, mask-wearing husband, Eustace. Despite his name, Courage had to face off against aliens, demons, and urban legends every single week to keep his family safe.

Why Courage Still Rules

What made this show stand out from every other cartoon in the late 90s?

  • The Surreal Horror: It wasn’t just “scary for a kid’s show”—it was genuinely unsettling. From King Ramses’ curse to the “You’re not perfect” creature, the show used CGI, claymation, and live-action to create a truly eerie, dreamlike atmosphere.

  • The Heart: At its core, the show was about unconditional love. Courage was terrified of everything, but he would literally walk into the mouth of a monster for Muriel. It taught us that bravery isn’t the absence of fear; it’s doing what needs to be done even when you’re shaking.

  • Dark Humor: Between Eustace’s iconic “Stupid dog!” and the bizarre villains like Fred the “Naughty” barber, the show was hilarious in a dark, twisted way that still holds up for adults today.

  • The Art Direction: The hand-drawn backgrounds of the lonely, desolate farmhouse were beautiful and haunting, making “Nowhere” feel like a character of its own.
