If you thought your shift at work was stressful, wait until you see what nurse Julia is dealing with. The team behind the 2024 FrightFest hit Mom is back! And they’ve just dropped a pulse-pounding new teaser for their latest nightmare: Bury the Devil.

Set to have its world premiere at FrightFest Glasgow on March 6, this isn’t your average possession flick. Here’s why this one should be at the top of your watchlist.

A Real-Time Nightmare

The most ambitious aspect of Bury the Devil unfolds in real time using a seamless, one-shot technique. There are no “safe” cuts or breaks in the action. Once the terror starts, you’re trapped right alongside the protagonist until the credits roll.

Dementia or Demonic?

The film follows Juli. She is a dedicated nurse, as she finds herself pulling a shift at the home of a patient with dementia. At first, the creaks and whispers of the old house seem like standard “creepy home” fare. But as the night progresses, Julia realizes that the patient’s confusion might actually be an open door for something much darker.

Something demonic is seeping through the cracks of the house. And Julia is caught in the middle. With the exits blocked and her reality fracturing, she’s forced into a desperate battle to exorcise the evil before she—and her patient—are consumed by it.

The Creative Powerhouse

Adam O’Brien, who proved he knows how to handle domestic dread with Mom, is in the director’s chair for the film that stars Dawn Ford, Emmanuelle Lussier Martinez, and Bill Rowat, who have the unenviable task of carrying a high-intensity, one-take performance.

Why You Should Watch It

Gimmicks aside, “one-shot” horror is notoriously difficult to pull off because it requires perfect choreography and sustained tension. Early buzz surrounding Bury the Devil suggests O’Brien has managed to turn a claustrophobic house into a living, breathing character that feels just as possessed as the people inside it.

The new teaser trailer is already making waves for its unsettling atmosphere and “no-escape” energy, making this one of the most anticipated titles of the FrightFest circuit.
