Get ready for a deep dive into the weirdest part of the Gulf. From Tyler Cornack, the director behind the cult hit Butt Boy, comes Mermaid—a genre-bending flick that’s part horror, part comedy, and 100% pure Florida chaos. If you’ve been looking for a fairy tale with a gritty, sun-drenched twist, this is the one.

A Different Kind of Catch

The story follows a down-on-his-luck, drug-addicted Florida man (played by the always-hilarious Johnny Pemberton) who hits rock bottom. When things couldn’t get any worse, he stumbled upon a wounded mermaid.

But this isn’t a Disney movie. As word of his “secret” starts to leak out into the local community, our protagonist spirals into a protective frenzy, willing to do whatever it takes to keep her safe from those looking to exploit her. It’s a wild, drug-fueled ride that explores just how far someone will go for the only thing they have left to lose.

A Mind-Blowing Cast

The ensemble for this film is absolutely stacked with comedy legends and character actors. It stars Johnny Pemberton (Fallout, Superstore), Avery Potemri (as the Mermaid), Kevin Nealon (SNL, Weeds), and Kirk Fox (Parks and Recreation). Tom Arnold (True Lies), Robert Patrick (Terminator 2), and Kevin Dunn (Veep, Transformers) also join the chaos.

Why We’re Hyped

Tyler Cornack is known for taking bizarre premises and turning them into surprisingly grounded, high-stakes stories. With a cast this talented and a setting as “off the wall” as the Florida coast, Mermaid is shaping up to be one of the most original indie releases of the year.

Release Information

You won’t have to wait long to catch this one. Mermaid is swimming into select theaters very soon, on April 8, 2026. In fact, you can get your tickets now by visiting the official website.
