One of the most anticipated titles at this year’s SXSW, American Dollhouse, will celebrate its World Premiere in the SXSW festival’s prestigious Midnighters section.
Written and directed by John Valley (The Pizzagate Massacre), this Austin-set horror thriller marks the filmmaker’s sophomore feature. Following his critically acclaimed debut, Valley continues his evolution into elevated genre storytelling with a cast featuring Hailley Lauren (1923), Kelsey Pribilski, Tinus Seaux, Danielle Evon Ploeger, and Richard C. Jones.
The Story
Seeking an escape from a life derailed by debt and addiction, a young woman returns to her childhood home. However, her sanctuary becomes a cage when a neighbor becomes dangerously obsessed with her. As friends vanish, the fixation turns lethal. She is plunged into a perverted, blood-soaked Christmas nightmare.
Local Roots, Global Ambition
A testament to the Texas independent film scene, American Dollhouse was shot and produced entirely in Austin with a local cast and crew.
“Premiering at SXSW is a dream come true,” says Valley. “This film was made by artists and technicians for the pure love of the craft. Debuting it here, in front of this specific audience, is incredibly meaningful.”
Drawing inspiration from proto-slasher classics like Psycho and Black Christmas, the film explores the dark intersections of grief, obsession, and fractured identity. The film will make its premiere on Saturday, March 13, at the Alamo Lamar 4.
