Now that Scream 7 is officially slashing its way through the box office, horror maestro Kevin Williamson is trading Ghostface’s blade for something a bit more… legendary. While we’re all still reeling from his return to the franchise he built, Williamson just dropped a bombshell that has the horror community ready to howl at the moon.
In a recent chat with Esquire, Williamson revealed his next move: a television series set deep within the Universal Monsters universe. Yes, you read that correctly. The man who defined 90s horror is officially moving into the neighborhood of Dracula, Frankenstein, and the Wolf Man.
“Vampire Diaries”—But Make It Grown Up
Williamson isn’t just dipping his toes into the classic monster pool; he’s bringing his signature blend of high-stakes drama and razor-sharp wit with him. Describing the project as an “adult Vampire Diaries,” Williamson noted:
“Netflix and Universal were very kind to let me go direct Scream 7 and put some projects on hold… The one I’m writing right now is based in the Universal monster land. I get to play with some of those characters like Dracula and Frankenstein and the Wolf Man and have fun there.”
If anyone can successfully reboot the “Dark Universe” vibe for TV, it’s Williamson. Here is why this is a match made in (horror) heaven.
Between Dawson’s Creek and The Vampire Diaries, the man is the undisputed king of gripping, addictive ensemble dramas. When it comes to movies, from Scream to The Faculty, he knows exactly how to subvert tropes while keeping the tension at a breaking point.
Imagine the romantic angst of the CW meets the gothic dread of a 1930s Universal classic. It’s a “monster kid” fever dream come to life.
Totally Here For It
While plot details are currently under a tighter shroud than a mummy, the promise of Kevin Williamson-penned chase scenes with the Wolf Man are enough to make us start a countdown immediately. We’ll be watching this development with the intensity of Dracula staring down a fresh neck.
While You Wait
In the meantime, if you haven’t seen Scream 7, which has already brought in $104.48 million at boxoffices, head to a theater now. See it before the spoilers find you!
