Hold onto your hats, horror fans, because the “Flanaverse” just found a new home. Modern maestro Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, Doctor Sleep) has officially inked a massive multi-year overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios. This means the man who redefined prestige horror will be developing and producing original series exclusively for Amazon—and the first course of this feast is already on the table.
Carrie: The Eight-Part Epic
The first project out of the gate is Flanagan’s highly anticipated adaptation of Stephen King’s Carrie. Having wrapped filming last year, the series is currently eyeing an October premiere.
This isn’t just another 90-minute retread. The eight-part series promises a deeper dive into Carrie White’s isolated world. Following her father’s untimely death, Carrie has to navigate the “alien landscape” of public high school while dealing with her domineering mother (Samantha Sloyan), a brutal bullying scandal, and the sudden, explosive emergence of her telekinetic powers.
As always, Flanagan has gathered a killer cast. Summer H. Howell stars as the titular Carrie White. Amber Midthunder, Matthew Lillard. You can also expect a “Who’s Who” of favorite faces in recurring roles, including Katee Sackhoff, Rahul Kohli, Kate Siegel, and Henry Thomas.
A Packed Calendar of Nightmares
If you thought one King adaptation was enough to keep him busy, think again. Flanagan is currently the hardest-working man in horror! He’s also behind the upcoming film The Exorcist, set for release on March 12, 2027. There’s Clayface, DC’s upcoming comic book horror flick, which is ready to melt screens on October 23. Flanagan is making a new version of The Mist. And let’s not forget about The Dark Tower: With this new Amazon deal, fans are finally seeing a clear path toward Flanagan’s “dream project”—a definitive adaptation of King’s sprawling epic.
Stock up on popcorn and snacks and get ready for more from the “Flanaverse!”
