Atlas Distribution is leaning into the superstitions by dropping the star-studded film Scared to Death on Friday, March 13th. On paper, it’s a horror fan’s fever dream. You’ve got icons like Lin Shaye (Insidious) and Bill Moseley (The Devil’s Rejects) sharing the screen.

The Vibe

The film attempts to occupy the same irreverent space as Shaun of the Dead or Young Frankenstein. It’s a wild ride that claims to be “loosely inspired by true events,” which is a bold swing for a movie featuring a scene-stealer named “The Grog” (played by rock frontman Kurt Deimer).

The movie follows the director and actors as they make a horror movie. But first, they travel to an old house for a seance hosted by Moseley. However, everything goes terribly wrong.

The Verdict:

While Steven Poster’s cinematography is slick and the cast is stacked, the movie lands in a bit of a gray area. It’s a “horror-comedy” that feels a little too shy to commit to the scares or the punchlines fully.

If you’re a die-hard fan of Shaye or Moseley, it’s a fun enough reunion to witness, but don’t expect it to redefine the genre. However, it is worth checking out. Scared to Death hits theaters on Friday, March 13th.
