If you haven’t seen the 2019 creature feature masterpiece that is Crawl, stop what you’re doing and get to a screen. It’s the ultimate “bad day at the office” movie—if your office was a flooded basement in Florida and your coworkers were prehistoric apex predators with a taste for human flesh.
Crawl is Streaming
Currently lurking in the murky depths of the Paramount+ library (it dropped March 1st!), Alexandre Aja’s Crawl is a masterclass in high-tension “natural horror.” Produced by the legendary Sam Raimi, it tells the simple, terrifying story of a daughter (Kaya Scodelario) and her father trapped in a crawlspace during a Category 5 hurricane.
The only problem? They aren’t alone. The rising floodwaters have invited a few hungry alligators to the party.
The Update
After months of radio silence following the 2024 announcement of Crawl 2, Sam Raimi has finally tossed us a lifeline. In a recent chat with The Wrap, Raimi confirmed that, with the Paramount-Skydance merger, he has “a new hope” of getting the cameras rolling sooner rather than later.
Reportedly, the sequel is trading the Florida swamplands for the claustrophobic streets (and presumably sewers) of New York City. Expect the same “no-nonsense” brutality, bone-snapping injuries, and lean storytelling that made the first one a cult classic.
Why “Crawl” is a Certified Banger
If you need a reason to hit play on Paramount+ tonight, consider this: the movie “Certified Fresh” 84% critic score. It also happens to be ranked as number 11 on Sam Raimi’s highest-rated films list (and even higher if you’re a gore-hound). Want more? The movie features some of the most visceral, “did-I-just-hear-that-bone-snap?” practical effects in modern creature features. Head over to Paramount+ now!
