At this point, is it even a movie year if Jenna Ortega isn’t haunting our dreams? Between solving murders as “Wednesday,” with Season 3 already in the oven, and dodging unicorns with Paul Rudd in A24’s Death of a Unicorn, the 23-year-old scream queen is officially one of the busiest people in Hollywood. But if you thought she was taking a break, think again. She’s about to make roommate hunting look even more terrifying than it already is.

The “New Roommate” From Hell: Single Female

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ortega is set to star in a modern reimagining of the 1992 cult classic Single White Female. Now titled simply Single Female, the film is being developed by Sony’s 3000 Pictures, with a script by Sarah DeLappe (Bodies, Bodies, Bodies).

The Twist: Jenna isn’t just showing up for the catering. She and co-star Taylor Russell (Bones and All) are both serving as Executive Producers.

“Hey, Can I Borrow Your Identity?”

The original 1992 flick was a box-office juggernaut that taught an entire generation to never, ever get a roommate from a classified ad.

The original saw a woman kick out her cheating fiancé and find a new roommate who seems perfect—maybe too perfect. Things go from “sharing clothes” to “sharing a soul” really fast. Jealousy turns to violence as the new roommate tries to systematically delete anyone standing in the way of their “friendship.”

Why This Duo is a Total Power Move

If you’re going to remake a psychological horror masterpiece, you hire the experts. Jenna Ortega’s long list of roles makes her an easy choice. As for Taylor Russell, after her stint in the Escape Room franchise and her cannibalistic turn in Bones and All, she’s the perfect foil for Ortega.

The big mystery? We don’t yet know who is playing the “normal” one and who is playing the “obsessed” one. Place your bets now.

If you want to revisit Single White Female, you can find it streaming now on Prime or rent it ($3.99, but totally worth it) on Apple TV or Fandango at Home. Here’s a look back at the original trailer.
