Game Review: ‘Ready Or Not : Boiling Point DLC’

I’ve played a lot of FPS games over the years and dabbled in tactical shooters as well. When it comes to the intensity of tactical shooter games I’ve played in the past, they usually range from action-movie to trying to mirror reality. But it’s Void Interactive’s tactical shooter, Ready or Not, that’s become the most intense tactical FPS I’ve ever played. There are actually people online who say this game is scary because of how the tactics and some levels are based on reality. Void was awesome enough to send over a copy of the latest DLC for Ready or Not, titled Boiling Point.

In Ready or Not, players take on the role of “Judge”, the callsign of a police officer who is leading a team of S.W.A.T. officers in a fictitious city in California, where crime is increasing, along with threats posed from the international stage. In the DLC Boiling Point, mass riots are breaking out in the city, and what’s not helping is the arrival of some new players performing acts of terror.

Now. Onto the DLC/Game Itself! This is going to be interesting since I’m reviewing the DLC and not the main game itself, and in order to play the DLC, I had to finish the main game first… so I was marathoning Ready or Not Friday Night and all of the weekend! But what I can say about the main game is that it’s fun; some quick-paced FPS players might not like it, as you have to take your time with missions, but it would be fun to play with friends. I had Bot Teammates who, after a while, seemed to start having problems following orders.

The Boiling Point DLC has three missions that are possibly a little more intense than some of the levels in the base game, as the last level was the first time since marathoning the game that I lost teammates in combat. An aspect of the DLC I don’t like is how lost I am with the story. I don’t know if I had to play the other DLCs leading up to this one, but in the base game, some of the missions are related to one another, so being a first timer to this DLC might make you as confused as I was.

The one thing I love about the game (DLC too) is the modifications you can do with your character and weapons. Completing missions with certain rankings will unlock different cosmetics for your character. Just wish when it comes to the tattoos option, that you can pick which arm is tattooed, or both.

Overall, if you’re playing for the shooting and hunting of the enemy, but not for the story, you’ll like this game. If you’re someone who’s into a game for its plot, you may wish to pass, unless you’re willing to overlook it. I fell into the first category when it comes to this game. Ready or Not and its DLCs, including Boiling Point, are out now for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
