If you’ve been scouring the streaming services for a full moon, your search is over.  Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson‘s Cursed is officially available to stream on Paramount+, as of today, Sunday, March 22nd.

The Plot: Siblings, Shredding, and Secret Societies

Set in a glossy, early-2000s Los Angeles, the story follows siblings Ellie (Christina Ricci) and Jimmy (Jesse Eisenberg). Ellie is a busy TV producer trying to keep their life together after their parents’ tragic accident, while Jimmy is a high schooler just trying to survive the local bullies.

Their lives take a supernatural turn after a car accident on Mulholland Drive leads to a brush with a beast that definitely wasn’t a coyote. Enter Jake (Joshua Jackson), a suave nightclub owner and Ellie’s love interest, who may or may not be hiding a literal monster under his designer suits. As the siblings begin to “change”—experiencing increased strength, heightened senses, and an unfortunate craving for raw meat—they realize they have to break the curse before the next full moon makes the transformation permanent.

A “Who’s Who” of 2005 Royalty

The cast is a total time capsule of talent. Cursed features an absolutely stacked ensemble. The cast also includes Judy Greer and Milo Ventimiglia. And watch out for Cameos from Portia de Rossi, Shannon Elizabeth, and even Mýa. And get this, the SFX is from no other than Rick Baker.

The Legacy: Craven meets Williamson

On paper, Cursed was supposed to be the “Scream of werewolf movies.” It reunited director Wes Craven with writer Kevin Williamson, the duo that redefined slasher films.

While the theatrical cut has its flaws, the Craven/Williamson DNA is still visible in the sharp dialogue and the meta-commentary on LA celebrity culture. It’s a fast-paced, “creature feature” time capsule that is essential viewing for any horror completionist. Head over to Paramount+ and watch it for yourself.
