McFarlane Toys Joins the Fight

If you prefer your heroes in 7-inch plastic form, McFarlane Toys has officially opened pre-orders for a stunning new Hellboy action figure. It comes packed with a removable soft goods jacket (for that “investigator on the go” look), four alternate hands, his signature pistol, and a display base.

The Comic Book Forecast: Ghost Ships and Giant Robots

It wouldn’t be Hellboy Day without some actual paper and ink. Dark Horse has revealed a massive new collection and a first look at a returning favorite:

  • Hellboy and the B.P.R.D: The Ghost Ships of Laredo and Other Stories: This trade paperback collects a treasure trove of adventures (including the Yule Cat and The Monster of Nivola). It features a brand-new Mignola cover and drops November 27, 2026.

  • Giant Robot Hellboy Returns #1: Mignola and Duncan Fegredo are bringing back the big metal guy! The first preview pages are live today, and the full issue hits shelves July 22, 2026.

Hellboy

Who is Hellboy?

Born from the fires of Hell and summoned to Earth as a child by Nazi occultists, Hellboy (or Anung Un Rama) is a hulking, red-skinned demon who traded his apocalyptic destiny for a career as a paranormal investigator. Raised by the kindly Professor Trevor Bruttenholm and armed with his indestructible “Right Hand of Doom,” he serves as the star operative for the B.P.R.D. (Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense). Despite his intimidating horns (which he keeps filed down to stubs) and demonic lineage, he is famously blue-collar and dry-witted, preferring a cigar and a heavy revolver to any ancient prophecies.

So far, “Big Red” has been featured in over 700 comics and six films. People love Hellboy, which is why we are celebrating Hellboy Day! If you are in the mood to watch him in action, we’ve got your guide below.

The Guillermo del Toro Collection (Ron Perlman)
  • Hellboy (2004): Currently streaming on Hulu and Paramount+.

  • Hellboy II: The Golden Army (2008): Available on Peacock. It occasionally pops up on Netflix, but Peacock is its most consistent home this season.

The Modern Reboots
  • Hellboy (2019 – David Harbour): You can find this one on Max (formerly HBO Max).

  • Hellboy: The Crooked Man (2024 – Jack Kesy): After its theatrical run last fall, this folk-horror entry is currently an exclusive on Hulu and Disney+ (via the integrated app).

The Animated Features
  • Sword of Storms (2006) & Blood and Iron (2007): These are a bit harder to track down on the major streamers. They are currently available to stream for free (with ads) on Tubi and Pluto TV.

Beyond the Right Hand of Doom

Mike Mignola isn’t just haunting the B.P.R.D. these days. His highly anticipated new graphic novel, Uri Tupka and the Gods, is set to release next week on March 31. It’s a busy month for the master of shadows, and we’re here for it.
