The mystery is officially getting a little more crowded—and a lot more interesting. Netflix has just added a heavy hitter to its live-action Scooby-Doo reimagining, and if the latest casting is any indication, this isn’t your parents’ Saturday morning cartoon.
Variety has confirmed that Paul Walter Hauser (Black Bird, Richard Jewell) has joined the series in a “series regular” role. While his specific character is currently “under wraps,” Hauser’s involvement suggests grit and depth that align with the show’s moody new logline.
A Supernatural Slay at Summer Camp
Forget the colorful Mystery Machine for a moment. This “modern reimagining” takes us to the final days of summer camp. However, the vibes are more Friday the 13th than Hanna-Barbera:
As for the core cast, the Scooby series sees old friends Shaggy (Tanner Hall) and Daphne (McKenna Grace) entangled in a haunting mystery involving a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy named Scooby-Doo. This puppy may have been the sole witness to a “supernatural murder.” To solve the case, they join forces with Velma (Abby Ryder Fortson), a pragmatic townie, and Freddy (Maxwell Jenkins), the “strange but handsome” new kid. This “creepy nightmare” doesn’t just involve guys in rubber masks—it threatens to expose the dark secrets of every member of the group.
Who is Hauser Playing?
Given the “supernatural murder” and “secrets” angle, fans are already speculating. Could Hauser be playing a reimagined Sheriff Bronson Stone? A mysterious camp counselor? Or perhaps the “Professor” figure behind the mystery? With his knack for playing complex, often misunderstood characters, he’s the perfect wild card for a show that promises a “creepy nightmare” aesthetic.
