If you thought the emergency exit row was stressful, Renny Harlin is here to remind you with Deep Water that the ocean is just one giant, salty buffet—and you’re the “Chef’s Special.”
The legendary director behind Deep Blue Sea and the recent Strangers trilogy is returning to his shark-infested roots with Deep Water. The new trailer is making a splash, revealing that the plane crash is just the beginning.
The Flight from Hell
The premise is a classic “worst-case scenario” cocktail. A flight from LA to Shanghai takes a detour into the drink, forcing an emergency landing in the middle of the Pacific. As the cabin begins to fill with seawater, the survivors have to stop bickering long enough to realize that the wreckage has acted like a massive dinner bell for every shark within a fifty-mile radius.
An A-List Buffet
Harlin isn’t just bringing the teeth; he’s bringing the talent. The cast is anchored by heavy hitters who know a thing or two about high-stakes tension. That includes Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight) and Ben Kingsley (Shutter Island), who lead the charge against the elements. Angus Sampson (Insidious), Molly Belle Wright, and Kelly Gale join the struggle. Li Wenhan (of K-pop group UNIQ) and Nashi round out the international ensemble.
Harlin is reportedly aiming for a 1970s disaster movie vibe—think high-octane action paired with characters you actually don’t want to see eaten.
The “Rock and Roll” Production
The most electric aspect of the film might be the studio behind it. Simmons/Hamilton Productions is a powerhouse partnership between KISS co-founder Gene Simmons and Gary Hamilton. Deep Water is the opening salvo of a five-year plan to release 25 “seat-of-your-pants” adventures. With the Demon himself involved, you can bet the spectacle will be loud, proud, and appropriately bloody.
Deep Water will make a big splash when it hits theaters on May 1, 2026.
