Have you ever looked at a dimly lit office space and felt a sudden urge to run for your life? A24 is about to validate your nightmares. The official trailer for the Backrooms has arrived.

Backrooms is based on the viral video series that debuted in 2022 and has amassed over 190 million views. YouTube prodigy Kane Parsons makes his feature directorial debut. True to its internet-lore origins, the trailer reveals that the film brilliantly weaves raw, unsettling VHS-style found footage directly into the narrative. You can watch the full nightmare unfold in A24’s trailer below.

Watch Your Step

Penned by Will Soodik (Ash vs. Evil Dead), the story kicks off when a bizarre, glitchy doorway inexplicably appears in the basement of a furniture showroom. However, people are plunged into the yellow-wallpapered labyrinth of the “Backrooms.” It’s a place where the laws of physics are broken, and you’re definitely not alone.

A Powerhouse Cast & Crew

To bring this digital urban legend to life, A24 has assembled a wildly overqualified cast of Academy Award nominees and genre favorites. Chiwetel Ejiofor (Venom: The Last Dance) stars alongside Renate Reinsve (A Different Man), Mark Duplass (Creep), and Finn Bennett (True Detective: Night Country). Lukita Maxwell (Shrinking) and Avan Jogia (Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City) round out the cast.

A24 is producing alongside Chernin Entertainment, 21 Laps Entertainment, James Wan’s Atomic Monster, and Osgood Perkins’ Phobos.

Secure Your Escape Route

Don’t get left behind in the real world. Backrooms opens in theaters via A24 on May 29, and tickets are now officially on sale.
