Gather your hazmat suits and clear some shelf space! Lightbulb Film Distribution has announced that the legendary 1987 masterpiece Street Trash is officially getting a 4K UHD Collector’s Edition!
This neon-soaked movie is the definitive ’80s cult horror that literally spawned the “melt movie” sub-genre. Best of all? This gross-out classic has been lovingly restored from the original negative. That means the practical gore has never looked more beautifully repulsive.
Toxic Booze and Junkyard Blues
Directed by J. Michael Muro and made for a shoestring budget of roughly $100k, the film follows two young runaways living in a derelict Brooklyn junkyard.
Life on the streets is already hard. But everything goes from bad to melt-your-skin-off terrible quickly. A local liquor store owner finds a mysterious case of “Tenafly Viper” in his basement. The cheap booze is over forty years old. However, it hasn’t aged like a fine wine. It has gone bad. Real bad. One sip, and the local vagrants are melting into colorful, bubbling puddles of goo.
The Ultimate Collector’s Loot
Lightbulb Film Distribution is pulling out all the stops for physical media nerds. The Collector’s Edition is strictly limited to just 2,000 copies and is housed inside a glorious, nostalgic retro VHS box with killer bonus features.
Bonus Features:
-A brand-new 4K restoration from the original negative
-Over five hours of brand-new extra features and newly recorded audio commentaries.
| -Custom inserts and exclusive cover artwork designed by the legendary horror illustrator Graham Humphreys. |
“We are delighted to be bringing Street Trash ’87 to 4K UHD for the very first time and to celebrate this classic melt movie in all its, gloopy, gunky glory. And with Graham Humphreys designing the incredible new artwork and inserts for this special edition, along with Jason Impey supplying some wonderfully insightful, never-before-seen extras and commentaries, ensures that all boxes were ticked. We are over the moon with how the final package looks and plays, and we can’t wait to hear and see horror fans’ reactions when they receive the Limited Collector’s Edition VHS Box in their hands,” commented Commercial Director Matthew Kreuzer.
Catch the Slime on the Big Screen
If watching people dissolve in the comfort of your own home isn’t enough, Street Trash is returning to select cinema screens across the UK and Ireland for special one-off shows this May! Keep your eyes peeled for screenings at legendary indie hubs like the Prince Charles Cinema in London, CultPlex in Manchester, and Broadway in Nottingham.
