Let’s be honest, without special effects, movies would suck. That’s why people like Marc Smith of Craft Apes are so important. Recently, Smith served as the VFX Supervisor on the film They Will Kill You, a balls-to-the-wall must-see!
I had the pleasure of discussing both his role on set and how some of the amazing scenes were created, giving us a behind-the-scenes glimpse at the action.
You may be wondering what They Will Kill You is all about. Let me fill you in: Zazie Beetz stars as a woman desperate enough for work that she answers a cryptic help-wanted ad for a live-in housekeeper. The location? A gorgeous, ultra-exclusive NYC high-rise. The catch? The residents have a nasty habit of disappearing, and the “co-op board” is actually a demonic cult.
When the building goes into lockdown, Zazie has to trade her mop for a machete to fight her way through a “death-trap of a lair before she becomes the evening’s sacrifice. Watch it now in theaters!

But They Will Kill You is not the first film Smith has brought to life; he also worked on the films Rise of the Planet of the Apes and series like “Watchmen.” Needless to say, the man knows what he’s doing, and he’s done a lot!
