If you’ve been following AMC’s “Certified Fresh” horror anthology The Terror: Devil in Silver, you already know that New Hyde Psychiatric Hospital isn’t exactly a five-star wellness retreat. Star and executive producer Dan Stevens (Abigail, Downton Abbey) has been put through the wringer as Pepper, a working-class mover wrongfully committed to a literal living hell due to a bad temper and worse luck.
Ahead of its premiere this Thursday, May 21, on AMC+ and Shudder, a new sneak peek from the third episode promises that things are about to get significantly weirder—and much more chaotic.
Episode 103: “Che Guevara” — The Ultimate Asylum Field Trip
Nothing says psychological horror quite like an institutional pizza party. In this Thursday’s all-new episode, the baseline level of dread at New Hyde skyrockets. Here is what’s on the menu:
-The Gaslighting Continues: The hospital staff flatly denies that Pepper was attacked. This makes him question his own reality.
-The Silver Door: A fellow patient named Coffee drops a massive lore bomb, explaining that a genuine, certified beast lives right behind the silver door.
-Off the Meds: In classic horror fashion, Pepper decides to stop taking his medication.
-Pizza and Pandemonium: The staff decides the best way to manage a facility full of unstable patients is to take them out for pizza. Predictably, it devolves into total, unmitigated chaos.
-A Visit from the Boss: To cap it all off, the Devil himself makes an appearance to show Pepper exactly what happens to patients who refuse to comply.
This hour of madness is directed by Emmanuel Osei-Kuffour, Jr., and penned by writer Adria Lang.
Behind the Institutional Walls: The Creative Brain Trust
“The Terror: Devil in Silver” owes its suffocating atmosphere to a remarkably stacked creative lineup. The six-episode limited series is executive-produced by cinematic legend Ridley Scott, alongside Emmy-nominated director Karyn Kusama (Yellowjackets).
The nightmare is steered by showrunners Chris Cantwell (Halt and Catch Fire) and Victor LaValle (The Changeling). The tale was adapted directly from LaValle’s celebrated novel. In our interview with the talented duo, they discussed how it came to be, what fans can expect, and so much more. Don’t miss it.
An Award-Winning Ensemble Cast
Dan Stevens anchors the madness with his frantic, claustrophobic performance, but he is surrounded by a stellar tier of character actors who ensure every scene hits like a physical punch. The cast includes Judith Light (Before), Aasif Mandvi (Evil), CCH Pounder (Rustin), Stephen Root (Barry), and Marin Ireland (Sneaky Pete).
How to Watch
If you’re ready to see how a routine slice of pepperoni translates into psychological collapse, tune in this week. Episode three drops Thursday, May 21, on AMC+ and Shudder, with new episodes arriving weekly. For cable traditionalists, the series will also make its linear broadcast debut on AMC later this year. If you aren’t watching this series, you’re missing out on one of the best shows on TV.
If you missed the first two seasons of The Terror—which tackled doomed Arctic naval expeditions and ghostly hauntings in WWII internment camps—you can stream them right now on both platforms to get properly acclimated to the dread.
