Forget renting a limo or worrying about who is going to ask you to the dance. This year, the cool kids are skipping the crowning ceremony entirely—mostly because the alternative is a knife to the chest. Dark Star Pictures has officially announced that its buzzy slasher, You’re Dead to Me, will slice its way onto Digital and On Demand this July.
The film promises a blood-soaked love letter to late-’90s teen horror staples like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, but updated with a distinctly modern, highly chaotic twist.
Prom Night is a Dead End
The plot follows a trio of high school seniors who decide that prom is far too mainstream and opt instead for a secluded weekend getaway free from parents, curfews, and real-world responsibilities. Naturally, because this is a horror movie and teenagers aren’t allowed to have nice things, their influencer-worthy retreat takes a sharp turn into terror when they discover one of their classmates has been brutally slaughtered. Even worse? The killer might just be trying to crash their afterparty.
A Mix of Scream Queens and Gen Z Icons
To bridge the gap between classic millennial dread and modern teenage angst, the film boasts a brilliant, cross-generational ensemble cast. ’90s icon and bona fide genre veteran Denise Richards (Wild Things, The World Is Not Enough) anchors the film, bringing some phenomenal legacy star power to the screen.
Sharing the screen—and the body count—is an elite lineup of Hollywood’s fastest-rising young talent, including Siena Agudong (Sidelined 2: Intercepted), Jessica Belkin (the upcoming Baywatch reboot), Ella Anderson (Henry Danger, Song Sung Blue) and Conor Husting (Boo, Bitch).
Horror Royalty Behind the Camera
You’re Dead to Me already whipped up a massive storm of critical acclaim following its raucous World Premiere at FrightFest. A major reason for the hype is the creative pedigree behind the script, which was co-written by Sarah Howard and Terry Castle. If that last name sounds familiar, it should: Terry is the daughter of the absolute king of cinematic showmanship, William Castle—the legendary mastermind behind gimmick-heavy classics like The Tingler, House on Haunted Hill, and 13 Ghosts.
Directed with a slick, sharp eye by Juan Pablo Arias Muñoz, the film looks to combine old-school cinematic suspense with a ruthless modern edge.
So, cancel your tuxedo rentals and put away the corsages. Throwing on a blood-stained hoodie is much more fashionable anyway. Mark your calendars for July 7 and prepare to RSVP to the deadliest afterparty of the summer.
