NEON’s highly anticipated summer camp slasher throwback, Hell of a Summer, has shifted its theatrical release date. Originally slated for April 18, the horror-comedy will now arrive in theaters early.

Hell of a Summer marks a significant step for “Stranger Things” star Finn Wolfhard, who co-wrote, co-directed, and stars in the film along with Billy Bryk (Ghostbusters: Afterlife).

The film follows 24-year-old camp counselor Jason Hochberg (Fred Hechinger). He arrives at Camp Pineway expecting the most significant challenge to be connecting with his teenage co-workers. However, his expectations are shattered when a masked killer begins brutally eliminating counselors one by one. The film promises a blend of horror and comedy, capturing the spirit of classic slashers while injecting a modern sensibility.

The ensemble cast includes Fred Hechinger (Fear Street 1994) and D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai (Reservation Dogs). Abby Quinn (Mad About You) and Pardis Saremi (Career Opportunities in Murder and Mayhem) round out the cast.

The shift in release date suggests NEON’s confidence in the film’s potential, strategically positioning it for a potentially stronger box office run. With its blend of nostalgia, horror, and comedy, Hell of a Summer is poised to capture the attention of genre enthusiasts when it opens in theaters on April 4.
