Call of the Void, a chilling blend of folk horror and cosmic dread, promises an unsettling cinematic experience when it arrives on digital platforms this April.

After the devastating loss of her brother, Moray seeks solace in the remote tranquility of a secluded mountain cabin. She hopes to escape the pressures of her work, her family, and the remnants of her former life. However, her quest for peace is abruptly shattered by the arrival of a college band. They move into the adjacent unit, disrupting the quiet solitude she craves.

A professor, engrossed in studying a local phenomenon centered around a mysterious, omnipresent hum, adds to the unsettling atmosphere. Moray soon discovers that this enigmatic “Hum” is more than just an auditory anomaly; it’s a gateway. It is a sonic portal to an otherworldly realm, a place of unnameable horrors.

Cosmic Dread Meets Folk Horror

Call of the Void delves into the terrifying question of how one can flee the very senses that define one’s reality. The film features elements of Appalachian folk horror with the unsettling cosmic dread of Lovecraftian terror. The talented cast performs haunting songs from the Appalachian folk songbook, adding a layer of authentic regional atmosphere.

A Talented Cast

The film boasts a compelling cast, featuring Caitlin Carver, known for her roles in “Chicago Fire” and Netflix’s “Dear White People.”  Mina Sundwall, acclaimed for her work in Netflix’s Lost In Space and Jesus Revolution, adds depth to the ensemble. Christian Antidormi (Spartacus) and Ethan Herisse (Nickel Boys) round out the ensemble.

James B. Cox, known for  “Hacked” and “Grey Matter” (based on a Stephen King short story), writes and directs Call of the Void, bringing his unique vision to this unsettling tale.
