Tremors fans, get ready for some potentially fantastic news! Stampede Entertainment, the production company that brought us the first four glorious installments of the Tremors franchise, has just obtained the rights back to the original script for the movie that started it all, initially titled the much less catchy Beneath Perfection.
The Good News
A new project is underway, though no details have been released. Stampede has dropped a juicy tidbit: They are seriously exploring the possibility of a sequel that would bring the action back to Perfection. That’s the dusty Nevada town where much of the original film (and several sequels) unfolded.
Crucially, Stampede emphasized that this potential project will not be a remake of the first film or based on their original script for Tremors 5 (which took the action to South Africa), thankfully.
But here’s the real kicker: they explicitly stated, “We are considering ideas that feature the return of Kevin Bacon as Val, but no promises!” Cue the collective hopeful gasps of Tremors aficionados everywhere.
It’s fantastic to hear that Stampede is actively thinking about bringing Bacon back into the fold. The charismatic actor was the heart and soul of the original Tremors. Sadly, he hasn’t reprised the role of the reluctant hero Val McKee in any of the numerous sequels.
A Return to Perfection
So, is Bacon himself interested in revisiting the sandy, Graboid-infested landscape? He recently told ComicBook, “I just want to see what happened 25-30 years later to this guy and where he would have ended up.” That sounds like he’s at least curious about catching up with old Val!
However, let’s keep our expectations in check, folks. The road to a Bacon-led Tremors revival has been bumpy before. Remember in 2017 when SYFY optioned a “Tremors” series pilot with Bacon attached? We all dared to dream of Val battling Graboids on the small screen. Sadly, that project ended up stuck in development hell, with SYFY deciding not to pick up the pilot. Ouch.
Here’s hoping Stampede can finally find the magic formula to push this new project forward and maybe even reunite some other beloved members of the original cast.
The first Tremors film, directed by Ron Underwood from a script by S. S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, wasn’t just about Bacon. It also starred the excellent Michael Gross, late Fred Ward, talented Finn Carter, and even country music icon Reba McEntire. Let’s not forget Michael Gross, who has been the absolute backbone of the franchise, appearing in every single film and the previous television series. Getting him on board to return to Perfection would be a huge win.

We’ve Got Our Fingers Crossed
Only time will tell if this latest attempt to bring Bacon back to the Tremors universe bears fruit. But with both Stampede Entertainment expressing interest and Bacon himself seemingly intrigued, we’re feeling cautiously optimistic. Let’s cross our fingers that we’ll soon be hearing the familiar rumble of Graboids under the sands of Perfection once again! In the meantime, if you need your dose of Bacon battling supernatural baddies, you can check out his recent series, “The Bondsman,” which we thoroughly enjoyed.
