Horror Fuel

Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Horror Fuel (“we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, and protects your personal information when you visit horrorfuel.com (the “Site”) or interact with our content. By using the Site, you agree to the practices described below. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

1. Who We Are

Horror Fuel is an independent horror entertainment publication covering horror news, reviews, trailers, interviews, and genre culture. For any privacy questions or requests, contact us at [email protected].

2. Information We Collect

We collect information in two ways: information you provide directly and information collected automatically when you browse the Site.

  • Information you provide: if you subscribe to our newsletter, leave a comment, or contact us, we may collect your name, email address, and the content of your message or comment.
  • Information collected automatically: when you visit the Site, we (and the third-party services described below) may automatically collect your IP address, browser type and version, device information, pages visited, time spent on pages, and referring URLs — primarily through cookies and similar technologies.

3. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small text files stored on your device that help websites function and help owners understand how visitors use their site. We use the following categories of cookies:

  • Essential cookies — required for core Site functions, such as remembering your logged-in state or comment preferences.
  • Analytics cookies — used by Google Analytics (see Section 4).
  • Advertising cookies — used by third-party ad partners (see Section 5) to build a profile of your interests and show you relevant ads on this Site and elsewhere.
  • Third-party cookies — set by embedded services such as YouTube and AddToAny (see Sections 6–7).

Full details of every cookie category, the providers involved and how long each one lasts are in our Cookie Policy.

Consent. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland are shown a consent message before any non-essential cookie is set. We use a Google-certified consent management platform (Google Privacy & Messaging) integrated with the IAB Europe Transparency & Consent Framework; it lets you accept, refuse (with a button of equal prominence) or manage purposes and vendors individually. Outside those regions the message is not displayed because local law does not require it.

Tag behaviour. Our Google tags run with Consent Mode v2: ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization and analytics_storage are set to denied by default and are updated only after you make a choice. Embedded YouTube videos are blocked until you click the placeholder, so no request reaches YouTube before that.

You can change your decision at any time by deleting this site’s cookies in your browser and reloading the page; the consent message will appear again. You can also block cookies entirely through your browser settings, although some parts of the Site may stop working.

4. Analytics — Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC (“Google”), to understand how visitors use the Site. Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect information such as how often you visit, which pages you view, and which other sites referred you to us. Google Analytics collects your IP address (in a truncated form) but does not identify you personally by name or email.

Google uses the data collected to evaluate Site usage, compile reports, and provide other services relating to Site activity. Google’s ability to use and share information collected by Google Analytics is restricted by the Google Analytics Terms of Use and the Google Privacy Policy. You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

5. Advertising — Third-Party Ad Networks

We display advertising on the Site through third-party advertising partners, including Google AdSense. These partners may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites (behavioural advertising).

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to the Site and other websites.
  • Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads based on your visits to this Site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings or the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out page.

We do not sell your personal information to advertisers. Ad partners may collect information about your device and browsing activity as described in their own privacy policies.

6. Embedded Content — YouTube

Articles on the Site may embed videos from YouTube, a service provided by Google. Videos are not loaded with the page: each article shows a placeholder, and the YouTube player is requested only after a visitor clicks “Load video”. Until that click, no request is sent to YouTube and no YouTube cookie is set. Once loaded, the player runs from YouTube’s no-cookie domain (youtube-nocookie.com), and YouTube may collect your IP address, set cookies and track your interaction with the video (for example, play/pause actions and viewing history). This happens even if you do not have a YouTube account, and YouTube may associate the data with your account if you are logged in. For more information, see the Google Privacy Policy.

7. Social Sharing — AddToAny

Articles on the Site include social sharing buttons provided by AddToAny. When you use a share button, AddToAny may collect information about your interaction and set cookies on your device, and your chosen social network will receive the information you choose to share according to its own privacy policy. AddToAny’s practices are governed by the AddToAny Privacy Policy. Note that we display AddToAny share buttons on our own pages; we do not control which third-party services you choose to share content with.

8. Newsletter

If you subscribe to our newsletter (“The Weekly Scare” or the footer newsletter form), we collect your email address for the sole purpose of sending you our editorial updates. We do not sell or rent your email address to third parties. Every newsletter email includes instructions on how to unsubscribe, and you may unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link or by contacting us at [email protected].

9. Comments

When you leave a comment on the Site, we collect the data shown in the comments form (your name and email address, if provided), your IP address, and your browser user agent string to help with spam detection. Your name and comment are visible publicly on the Site. An anonymised string created from your email address (a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you use it; the Gravatar privacy policy is available at automattic.com/privacy. If your comment is approved, your profile picture may be visible to the public.

10. How Long We Keep Your Data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely so we can recognise and approve follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue. Newsletter subscriber email addresses are retained until you unsubscribe. Analytics and advertising data are retained according to the retention periods of the respective third-party providers (Google Analytics, Google AdSense).

11. Your Rights

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR in the European Economic Area and the CCPA/CPRA in California), you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • The right to access the personal data we hold about you.
  • The right to rectification of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • The right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”).
  • The right to restrict or object to certain processing, including objection to cookies and personalised advertising.
  • The right to data portability.
  • The right to withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent.
  • The right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information as defined by the CCPA/CPRA — we do not sell personal information, and you can opt out of personalised advertising as described in Section 5.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

12. Children’s Privacy

The Site is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

13. Third-Party Links

The Site may contain links to third-party websites (including social networks, streaming services, and advertisers). We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of those websites. We encourage you to read the privacy policies of every website you visit.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal obligations. The updated version will be posted on this page with a revised “Last updated” date. Material changes will be highlighted where practicable. Continued use of the Site after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

15. Contact Us
