Ol’ Lucifer has had a hell of a time ruling over… well, Hell… but his reign may be at an end… or maybe not…
You see, there happens to be a prophecy mentioning a descendant of the Seraphim (warrior angels that would certainly not hesitate to jam a celestial knee up the Devil’s ass the long way), but vague-ass prophecies are going to vague, so The D is left unsure if this individual is friend or foe.
Thankfully, Luci has some troops to try and suss that out; Agrad-Bat-Mahlat (legendary scream queen Brinke Stevens), Asmodeus (Tom Lodewyck, The Family Business), Astarte (Debra Lamb, Teacher Shortage), Astaroth (Nick Principe, BLT from The FP baby), Paimon (Tim J. Hays, A Blood Story) plus the leader of the preternatural pack, Azazel (the late Angus Scrimm, the Phantasm series’ iconic Tall Man)… though all have differing ideas of how to achieve success in the task.
Adding to the turmoil is the involvement of mysterious players such as The Father (Chris Burchette, Bloodstruck), The Mother (Rachel Grubb, Femalien: Cosmic Crush), and the Watcher (Camden Toy, TV’s Buffy the Vampire Slayer), as well as mortal folk such as Father Thomas (Morgan Peter Brown, The Dungeon Run), and a woman named Kelly (Kaylee Williams, The Barn Part II)… all of whom become part of the unravelling of the prophecy’s riddle!
Written and directed by Joe Hollow (Flesh of the Unforgiven, the aforementioned The Family Business), The Devil’s Disciples is dense with lore and world building… but fret not, as instead of the ass-numbing runtime you may imagine such a thing would require this flick rockets by at a brisk hour and twenty-two minutes!
And what minutes they are… packed to the ghoulish gills with all manner of grizzly goings-on, naked flesh, and other forms of those sacred “Three B’s” of all solid fright flicks; Blood, Boobs, and Bad guys… and all of that eerie exploitation excellence is performed by a stunning “Horror Who’s Who” that includes not only the famous folks listed up yonder, but also features appearances from Debbie Rochon (Tromeo and Juliet), Bill Moseley (The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), Linnea Quigley (The Return of the Living Dead, Night of the Demons), and Barbara Magnolfi (Suspiria)!
Hell, I haven’t even mentioned the score by composer Harry Manfredini (the Friday the 13th series)…
Comprised of a rich mythology and dollops of horror biz finery, The Devil’s Disciples is a nice slice of fright flick gold that will slap a smile on your face 13 miles wide!
