Three decades after revolutionizing independent cinema with handheld cameras and stick figures, The Blair Witch Project co-creator Eduardo Sánchez and producer Gregg Hale are returning to the subgenre that made them legends.
They are swapping the haunted Maryland woods for the high-stakes world of online notoriety. The duo has teamed up with director Mike Nybroe for The Influencer Project. The found-footage horror thriller turns the modern obsession with digital fame into a terrifying fight for survival. Ahead of this week’s premiere, a new poster has arrived, teasing terror in the dark.
When Livestreaming Turns into a Fight for Survival
Drawing on authentic real-world experiences, the film stars popular fashion and beauty creator Chiara King. She makes her feature debut playing a fictionalized version of herself. The story follows King as she travels to Copenhagen alongside a documentary crew. They are tasked with pulling back the curtain on her glamorous digital brand. However, broadcasting every personal detail to millions of devoted followers carries a fatal cost. As an obsessive stalker closes in on her location, the documentary recording devolves into a frantic, real-time battle to stay alive.
Genre Heavyweights Tackle the Horrors of Digital Stalking
Marking Nybroe’s feature directorial debut, The Influencer Project is co-written alongside Lars Ap and Anders Jon Petersen. Sánchez and Hale produce the feature with Alex Hertzberg and Ahmet Zappa. Steven Greenberg executive produced the film, with acclaimed musician DJ White Shadow serving as composer and music supervisor.
Sánchez and Hale emphasized that while horror was once defined by supernatural forces hiding in dark forests, today’s threats live continuously inside our pockets. By exposing daily routines to millions of strangers, the film shows how easily online platforms invite real-world predators into a creator’s life, delivering a grounded, unsettling look at modern digital paranoia.
“Stepping into this role felt deeply personal for me,” said Chiara King. “I was able to draw from my own experience to bring an honesty to the performance, while also exploring what it means to take back your sense of control. I’m incredibly proud of what we created, and I can’t wait for audiences to experience the film and go on this journey with us.”
