Earlier this month, we shared the first look at the soon-to-be-released Netflix movie Ziam. Now, sink your teeth into the trailer for this new zombie flick, featuring practical effects.

Love, Guts, and Muay Thai

In a world gripped by severe food shortages, a tenacious Muay Thai boxer finds himself battling a brutal zombie outbreak. His mission: to save his lover from death.

Mark-Prin Suparat stars as Singh, the former professional Muay Thai fighter who’s ready to take on hordes of the undead with just his fists, elbows, and knees. Nychaa-Nuttanicha Dungwattanawanich, Vayla-Wanvayla Boonnithipaisit, Johnny Anfone, Pimmada Borriruksupakorn, and Jason Young join him.

Mark-Prin Suparat is best known for his roles in the films Eclipse of the Heart and Nuea mek song: Mue prap chom khamang wet. As for his fighting skills, he grew up as a Judo fighter and won several awards.

Kulp Kaljareuk directs the film from a script penned by Nut Nualpang, Weerasu Worrapot, Vatanyu Ingkavivat, and Chonnatee Pimnam.

Old-School Gore Meets Hard-Hitting Action

Director Kulp Kaljareuk told Netflix, “We’ve all seen many zombie movies, but we rarely see zombies involved in hand-to-hand combat or boxing. We wanted to explore what it’s like to fight zombies using the techniques of Muay Thai, which is known for its intensity and the use of the entire body, including elbows and knees as powerful weapons.”

And here’s a detail that’ll excite horror purists: “Each zombie is crafted with special makeup. No CGI was used to create raw and gory flesh. This choice helps give the zombies a visceral, physical presence that draws the audience deeper into the world.” Practical effects and an emphasis on raw, in-your-face action? Sounds like “Ziam” just might have what it takes to truly stand out from the crowded zombie subgenre!

You can watch the official trailer below, which introduces some eerily unsettling zombie designs and intense martial arts action. Get ready for a brutal, punch-packed, gore-filled, bloody good time when Ziam premieres internationally on Netflix on July 9.
