Kevin Bacon is back! Though his character met a memorable demise in Friday the 13th, his natural charm left a lasting impression on audiences. Over the decades, Bacon has become a recognizable figure in the genre. He’s appeared in films like Tremors (iconic), Flatliners, and Stir of Echoes (a personal favorite). He’s also been in You Should Have Left, They/Them, and MaXXXine. Now, he’s partnering with Amazon MGM Studios on Summoner. This project lands as welcome news for viewers following the unfortunate cancellation of his series “The Bondsman.”

The Team Behind the Terror

The upcoming feature boasts an extraordinary creative brain trust, making it one of the most anticipated genre offerings on the schedule. Written by Jeremy Slater, who makes his feature directorial debut, the project also features Stephanie Beatriz and Daniel Ings. Slater has built an impressive resume across major franchises, serving as head writer on Marvel’s “Moon Knight,” co-creating Netflix’s “The Umbrella Academy,” and writing the screenplay for Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Furthermore, he ran “The Exorcist” television series, which famously revealed itself as a direct sequel to the original film starring Geena Davis. Andy and Barbara Muschietti, under their Nocturna banner, produced alongside him, along with Longlegs producer Dan Kagan.

As for the cast of Summener, Deadline reports that “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” actress Stephanie Beatriz and “The Gentlemen” actor Daniel Ings have both joined the cast.

Witness Protection Meets Cosmic Possessions

The film’s narrative thrust introduces a uniquely terrifying hybrid of crime drama and apocalyptic horror. Bacon steps into the lead role of Jefferson Haddock, an aging exorcist called to an isolated witness-protection safe house. However, his mission to banish an entrenched demonic entity goes catastrophically wrong during the ritual. While trying to cast the entity out, Haddock accidentally breaks a metaphysical seal, releasing a far worse cosmic force. As a result, the unleashed power threatens to destroy him, the protected witnesses, and the surrounding area.

Anticipation for a Cinematic Experience

Designed as a major theatrical release before eventually landing on Prime Video, the film is set to begin principal photography later this fall. Audiences are eager to see how Slater translates his extensive television success onto the big screen. Meanwhile, horror fans are equally excited to see Bacon take on another iconic role, bringing his signature charisma to a dark battle against supernatural forces. While the release date hasn’t been announced yet, odds are you can expect it in late 2027.
