We’ve got big movie news today: acclaimed director Jaume Collet-Serra has just inked an exclusive multi-year deal with Netflix to produce and direct films!
This isn’t a typical move for the streamer, especially for feature films, but it’s no surprise given Collet-Serra’s recent massive success. He directed Netflix’s second-most-viewed movie of all time, Carry-On, starring Jason Bateman and Taron Egerton. Released in 2024, that film has been streamed an incredible 185 million times, according to Netflix.
First Up: “An Innocent Girl”
The first project under this exciting new partnership is the psychological thriller An Innocent Girl. This film will follow a young, ambitious woman who gets pulled into a dangerous world of sex, power, and murder after being seduced by a high-powered D.C. couple. Collet-Serra will direct and produce this project, working alongside Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter.
“From production to release, my experience making ‘Carry-On’ with the Netflix team was everything a filmmaker could hope for,” Collet-Serra told Variety. “I’m thrilled to call Netflix my creative home and excited to keep pushing boundaries together, beginning with ‘An Innocent Girl.’”

Doug Belgrad, Netflix’s Vice President of Film, expressed enthusiastic support for the partnership. He called Collet-Serra “one of the most in-demand directors out there right now, and for good reason — he knows how to deliver big, high-stakes stories that audiences love. The fact that he chose to make this deal with us, especially after the great experience we had together on ‘Carry-On,’ says a lot. Collet-Serra’s impressive filmography includes major hits like Disney’s Jungle Cruise and popular genre films such as Orphan and The Shallows.
