Following festival acclaim for his short film Three Houses Down, writer/director Ty Huffer is teaming up with Screamify. They will develop his first feature-length horror film! So, get ready for a practical-effects-driven folk horror nightmare slated for a 2026 release.

A Modern Folk-Horror Tale: Witches, Metal, and Family

Screamify™, the independent horror streaming platform, has signed a development deal with Ty Huffer to produce and distribute this exciting new project. Currently untitled, the film is discribed as a modern folk-horror. It will invovle a Norwegian black metal band, a witch, and a family.

Crucially for horror purists, Huffer intends to shoot the film using all practical effects with no AI technology. This commitment to hands-on gore and creature work truly sets it apart. The FX team is stacked with talent. It includes award-winning artists James Fairley (Longlegs, The Monkey, Deadpool 1–2) and Ret Harrison (Three Houses Down).

From Christmas Chaos to Feature Film

Huffer first caught the horror community’s attention with his award-winning short film Three Houses Down. This seven-minute Christmas horror flick, packed with hMakeuphysteria, saw a family battling a murderous elf on Christmas Eve. The film screened at 41 film festivals worldwide, racking up 17 awards and 13 additional nominations, including a showing at the noted FrightFest UK – putting Huffer firmly on the map as an emerging genre talent.

Early in 2025, Screamify executives caught Three Houses Down during its festival run and were immediately impressed by Huffer’s inventive blend of horror and humor. The platform not only pursued a feature deal with the Seattle-based filmmaker but also picked up “Three Houses Down” for streaming. The short is now set to premiere for Screamify members as part of the platform’s “Christmas in July” horror lineup.

“When we saw Three Houses Down on the festival circuit, we knew right away that Ty had a bold new voice in horror that we wanted to amplify,” said a Screamify representative. “His commitment to practical effects and imaginative storytelling is exactly what Screamify was built to support. We’re excited to help bring his vision – complete with witches, metal music and all – to life as a feature film for our audience.”

Screamify: Championing Indie Horror

The specific plot details of Huffer’s feature remain under wraps. However, the concept promises a unique fusion of heavy-metal subculture and supernatural terror. By involving a touring black metal band, an alleged witch, and an unsuspecting farm family, Huffer’s upcoming film aims to put a fresh spin on folk-horror tropes. The dedication to practical makeup and creature effects, without relying on CGI or AI, is a filmmaking approach that hardcoremakeupr fans will undoubtedly appreciate for its authenticity.

With Huffer’s film now in development, Screamify continues to demonstrate its commitment to empowering indie creators. The platform reinvests subscriber revenue directly into new projects and talent, rather than big studio formulas. This feature will join Screamify’s growing slate omakeupinal productions debuting in 2026.
