Just when you thought it was safe to fly, cut the grass, and get an MRI, Death is coming back for more! A seventh Final Destination movie is officially in development at New Line, with Bloodlines co-writer Lori Evans Taylor returning to pen the script, THR reports. It looks like the gruesome and fiery franchise that redefined our fear of everyday objects is here to stay!
A Record-Breaking Return & A New Creative Team
The news comes on the heels of the massive success of the sixth film, Final Destination: Bloodlines, which revived the franchise after a 14-year hiatus. It not only opened at No. 1 at the global box office this May but also achieved the best opening weekend in the series’ history with a $51 million domestic debut! It went on to become the franchise’s highest-grossing film, hauling in an incredible $286 million worldwide.
The success of Final Destination: Bloodlines has paved the way for more. Returning to produce the new film is a powerhouse team, including Craig Perry, Sheila Hanahan Taylor, Jon Watts, Dianne McGunigle, and Toby Emmerich, with Warren Zide serving as executive producer. This is the team that has shepherded the franchise for years, so fans can rest assured that the series is in good hands.
“Bloodlines” Coming Home!
While we wait for more news on the seventh film, you can get ready for a blood-soaked thrill ride! Final Destination: Bloodlines is now streaming on MAX! The film centers on Stefanie, a college student who finds herself violently plagued by a deeply disturbing nightmare. To break the terrifying cycle that seems to be closing in on her and her family, she embarks on a journey back to her hometown to seek out the one person who might hold the key: her grandmother, Iris.
With over $983 million worldwide in earnings, the Final Destination franchise is New Line’s third-biggest horror franchise, right behind IT and The Conjuring, whose last film, The Conjuring: Last Rites is headed your way this September.
It’s clear that audiences love watching Death’s elaborate Rube Goldberg-style traps, and with a seventh film on the way, we’re all just waiting to see what gruesome and unpredictable demise awaits next! If you haven’t seen it, Final Destination: Bloodlines is now streaming on HBO MAX.
