The highly anticipated sci-fi horror movie Somnium is set to be released soon. And it may leave you questioning what is real and what is a dream.
The Hollywood Dream… and a Deadly Secret
Somnium introduces us to Gemma. She is a small-town girl who moves to Los Angeles with big dreams of Hollywood success after a breakup. To support herself, she takes an overnight job at Somnium, a mysterious and experimental sleep clinic. It’s where patients’ dreams are somehow made real. As Gemma navigates the ruthless world of Hollywood auditions, she begins to experience disturbing and surreal events that blur the lines between reality and a terrifying nightmare. Trapped in a sinister cycle, she must uncover a dark secret hidden within the clinic’s walls before it’s too late.
A Dream Project and Cast
This film marks the feature directorial debut of talented writer-director Racheal Cain. It features scenes filmed in Georgia in 2018, following a successful crowdfunding campaign. However, it also has present-day sequences and scenes shot in Los Angeles between 2021 and 2022.
The cast includes Chloë Levine (The OA), Will Peltz (Unfriended), Peter Vack, Grace Van Dien, Draya Michele, and Johnathon Schaech..
A Haunting Look at Ambition and Fear
Cain reflects on the journey to bring the film to the screen, stating, “I couldn’t have dreamt Somnium would end up in theaters just a few miles from where I started writing it all those years ago. This film has clawed its way into existence over the last decade and I can only hope viewers find it was worth the wait.”
For fans who love psychological thrillers and movies that explore the darker side of ambition, Somnium offers a fresh and haunting perspective on how the dream of Hollywood can collide with a nightmare that never ends.
This nightmare-inducing film makes its theatrical debut in Los Angeles on August 29 and New York City on September 6, before becoming available on VOD September 9 via Yellow Veil Pictures.
