James Gunn is known as one of the top filmmakers out there. From Guardians of the Galaxy to Superman, he’s got a long history of making great movies.
But before he was making talking raccoons and super-soldiers, Gunn was into horror. Though that’s not surprising given his Troma background (he co-wrote Tromeo and Juliet), what is surprising is that he’s only ever directed one true horror film: 2006’s Slither.
Slither was Gunn’s first feature film. It’s a glorious, gory, and grotesque flick that takes massive inspiration from the ’80s, resulting in some truly gnarly body horror. We’re talking slugs, tentacles, and people turning into giant, pulsating, angry blobs. It’s fantastic!
The movie stars an impressive cast that includes Nathan Fillion, Elizabeth Banks, and Michael Rooker. It also features Don Thompson and Gregg Henry.
With Gunn dominating the entertainment news due to the success of his work on the hit series “Peacemaker” and the hype around the new Superman, both of which are on HBO Max, it’s the perfect time to revisit the movie that launched his career. And luck is on your side! Slither has officially squirmed its way back onto Peacock just in time for the spooky season. But watch it soon because it won’t be here long. However, there is more good news: you can pick up your copy on Blu-ray now from Scream Factory.
So sit back and get ready to be grossed out in the best possible way!
