In early October, an industry insider reported that the one and only Brendan Fraser is returning to reprise his role as the epic action hero Rick O’Connell in a new film in The Mummy franchise. Today, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that The Mummy 4 is a go!

There’s more great news: his co-star Rachel Weisz, who plays Rick’s on-screen wife, Evelyn, is also returning, bringing the iconic duo back together.

The fourth film of the franchise, which began in 1999, will not be a reboot (thank god)! While it will be a sequel, word is, it will bypass the third film and Tom Cruise’s movie. Either way, it will center on the original characters and cast, and that’s what fans have been begging for.

The amazing directing duo known as Radio Silence (Matt Bettinelli-Olpin & Tyler Gillett), behind films like 2022’s Scream and Ready or Not, will helm the sequel. As for the script, Orphan: First Kill writer David Coggeshall is handling that.

While Tom Cruise took the lead in Universal’s The Mummy (2017), part of the “Dark Universe” they were attempting to build, it was clear to fans that only one hero would do when it came to mummies: Fraser. The original Mummy franchise was a box-office hit, with the first movie bringing in $417 million at the box office in 1999; adjusted for inflation, that would be around $803 million today.

Are you ready to see Fraser and Wisz back together again, fighting off mummies? While we wait for more details to emerge, you can watch The Mummy on Fubo and Amazon Prime.
