Fans of Sarah Paulson have reason to celebrate! Not only is the Emmy winner returning for the next season ofAmerican Horror Story“, but she’s also teaming up once again with creators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan for the upcoming fourth installment of the Netflix true crime anthology, “Monster.”

This is where things get interesting. According to Variety, Paulson is reportedly nearing a deal to play convicted serial killer Aileen Wuornos. How exactly the two stories come together, we don’t yet know. But count us in.

The fourth season, officially titled “Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story,” focuses primarily on the infamous Lizzie Borden story. For those unfamiliar, Borden lived in Massachusetts in the late 1800s. In 1892, she was accused of brutally murdering both her father and stepmother with an axe in their own home. She was ultimately acquitted. However, the sensational nature of the murders still captivates the world, cementing Borden’s place in pop culture. Her story has been adapted many times, including in The Lizzie Borden Chronicles, starring Christina Ricci, and the film Lizzie, starring Chloë Sevigny.

Ella Beatty is starring as Lizzie. Charlie Hunnam (“Monster: The Ed Gein Story”) and Rebecca Hall have also joined the cast.
Paulson has long been a collaborator with Ryan Murphy. She starred in nine of the twelve seasons of “American Horror Story.” She also starred in Murphy’s “American Crime Story” and played a demented nurse in Murphy’s series “Ratched.” Needless to say, Paulson and Murphy have proven to be a great team again and again.
Here’s what you need to know about Aileen Wuornos. She was a serial killer convicted of murdering seven men in Florida between 1989 and 1990. Born in 1956 to a life of extreme poverty, abuse, addiction, and prostitution. Wuornos claimed her victims—all middle-aged men she met as a prostitute—were killed in “acts of self-defense” after they had attempted to assault her. She was ultimately convicted of six of the murders. Wuornos was sentenced to death before being executed by lethal injection in 2002.
