The Conjuring Universe is ready to deliver its most terrifying chapter yet. The highly anticipated final chapter, The Conjuring: Last Rites, is hitting HBO a lot sooner than you would think, next week.
The Conjuring: Last Rites marks the chilling ninth installment and the final film of the original franchise. Returning to the helm of horror are director Michael Chaves and producer James Wan, who have brought back the core stars, Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, as paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren. Chaves has issued a grave warning, calling the movie “the darkest thing we’ve ever seen in the series” and promising a relentlessly haunting experience.
In this desperate final encounter, the Warrens confront a malevolent darkness that has consumed the Smurl family. Set in West Pittston, Pennsylvania, in the 1970s, the film follows Janet and Jack Smurl, whose new beginning in a duplex on Chase Street quickly descended into a violent, supernatural nightmare. The Smurls claimed to be victims of terrifying phenomena, from chilling physical attacks and disembodied voices to aggressive demonic forces and possessed dolls that make Annabelle look like child’s play. It is up to the Warrens to confront and defeat this ultimate evil.
The iconic pairing of Wilson and Farmiga is joined by an impressive cast, including Mia Tomlinson as the now-grown Judy Warren, and Rebecca Calder and Elliot Cowan as the haunted Smurl parents.
