Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill champion new talent Charlie Schwan, expanding his award-winning short Harvester into a major feature film, Bitter Bitter.
The producing powerhouses behind modern horror hits like The Black Phone and Sinister, Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, are joining forces once again. Via their production company Crooked Highway, the duo is set to produce Bitter Bitter.
The feature is based on writer-director Charlie Schwan’s unsettling short, Harvester. The short recently impressed audiences and critics alike by winning the Jury Award for Best Texas Short at this year’s SXSW Film Festival.
Schwan’s chilling 13-minute short Harvester introduced audiences to a dark and complex pact. The story follows a desperate woman and her companion. They are transporting a bound man to an abandoned house to summon a mythical creature. Their dark bargain offers a forbidden chance to revisit the past. However, the horrific price demanded by the entity may be higher than they ever imagined.
Bitter Bitter will expand on this thematic terror, promising a deeply psychological and visceral experience:
“On the fringe of an isolated logging town, a grieving teen is drawn to an ancient creature that opens a window to the lost—but with each vision, a hunger grows, gnawing from within, and risks opening the door to something darker…”
Derrickson and Cargill have a well-established history of delivering critically acclaimed and commercially successful genre films. Their most recent hit, The Black Phone 2, continued their winning streak, grossing over $71 million stateside and $123 million worldwide. Their backing of Bitter Bitter signals their commitment to nurturing fresh voices and delivering high-concept, intelligent horror to a global audience. Watch the trailer for the short film below.
