Director Ruben Fleischer has confirmed his intention to continue the Zombieland franchise with a third installment, and we’re totally here for it.

The original was unleashed in 2009. It was followed by its sequel, Zombieland: Double Tap, in 2019. Fleischer told Deadline that he and the team intend to continue.

Fleischer stated his intentions directly, sharing, “I’m hoping that we’ll do a Zombieland 3 in 2029.” He explained the rationale behind the plan: “We’re starting to talk about that because [the first] one was 2009, and then we did the second one in 2019, and we kind of left that one all saying, ‘We’ll see you in 10 years.’ That’s coming up now, and so we’re starting to figure that out, so I’m hoping that’ll come together.” He added that he has other projects “raring to go,” making the timing of the Zombieland sequel dependent on which project moves forward fastest.

This isn’t the first time the filmmaker has floated the idea of Zombieland 3.  He’s not alone; star Jesse Eisenberg is ready to return. While promoting his own new release, Eisenberg told ComicBook that he absolutely wanted to make a third movie. Eisenberg led the zombie-slaying quartet in the 2009 original, starring alongside Woody Harrelson, Emma Stone, and Abigail Breslin, all of whom returned for the successful 2019 sequel.

“Yes, I would like to [make Zombieland 3]. Zombieland was, I think, a 10-year break in between… So, Now You See Me is probably more likely to have more movies than Zombieland.” Eisenberg stated.

While fans appreciate the hopeful news, there’s still a way to go for the third film. In the interim, Fleischer also expressed hopes to tackle a different genre entirely: a vampire Western.

He told Deadline, “Also, there’s this Western vampire movie that I’m really excited about, that’s like a classic Western with a vampire at the center of it. Like Unforgiven, if Clint Eastwood was a vampire. I’m really hoping to make that.” Fleischer concluded by saying he always dreamed of making a gangster movie and a Western, and he hopes to get the chance to direct this vampire-infused Western soon.

While you wait for Zombieland 3, rewatch the original Zombieland (Starz) and Zombieland: Double Tap (Prime, FX Now) now on.
