We see hundreds of horror films released every year. So when one shares a fresh story with plenty of scares, I get excited. That’s the case with Dream Eater, which just landed on Digital.

One thing (of many) that makes the film stand out is that it is truly a team effort. A trio of filmmakers wrote, directed, produced, and starred in the movie: Jay Drakulic, Mallory Drumm, and Alex Lee Williams. I had the pleasure of interviewing them today. Not only are they incredible filmmakers, but they also seem like really great people who are passionate about the genre.

Dream Eater follows documentary filmmaker Mallory (Mallory Drumm) and her boyfriend Alex (Alex Lee Williams) as they retreat to a cabin deep in the snowy mountains for a holiday.

Mallory begins to document Alex’s severe and violent parasomnia (sleepwalking). However, as Alex’s condition quickly deteriorates, Mallory suspects the cause is something far more sinister than a mere sleep disorder. Soon, she begins digging into Alex’s shadowy past in search of answers. She unravels a decades-long mystery steeped in deep trauma and the occult. A relentless darkness closes in, an ancient evil awakens, and the couple is plunged into a spiral of madness and horror.

The film gets some serious horror cred right out of the gate with Eli Roth’s The Horror Section behind it. Drumm, Williams, and Drakulic made the film under their Blind Luck Pictures banner, which you should follow to stay up to date on this and other films.

As a certified sleepwalker (you’ll hear about that in the interview), I can confess the film genuinely unsettled me. So, unless you want to stay up all night, you might want to watch it earlier in the evening. Maybe follow it up with some cartoons or something. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Watch the interview below and be sure to watch Dream Eater now on Digital. And have no fear, there are no spoilers ahead.
